About

Eavesdrop as your devilish host, Michael Rice, lures his ill-fated guests into dangerous territory... And laugh as they unwittingly succumb to his infernal charm!

Podcast #10

There are many actors who are disallusioned with the profession. Meet one little known would be thespian, who found his voice in a ‘zine called Macbeth. You may not agree with his point or even think he has one, but he is standing up and being heard.

P.S. I laughed, I cried, I pee’d my pants doing this interview.

  1. So. You want to be paid for theater…but you don’t want to pay for classes.
Sorta like…I want to be an accountant…but I don’t want to pay for school.

Pay to play sucks. Artists training artists and getting paid is valid.

  2. Laughing My Ass Off. You are right about that. Doesn’t quite add up does it?!?! Kirk baby. Get with it!

  3. I think this Pod cast is “cool-as-hell” to include such incendiary points of view. But as for Mr. White… the sooner he stops publicly shooting himself in the foot and starts doing something proactive and positive about the state of the theatre community the sooner he will realize that nothing is free and everything comes at a price. If he had any talent he might get cast. But as anyone who attended the general auditions and saw his two minutes of theatrical torture can attest, he doesn’t. “We need… new forms. We… need… new… F O R M S!”. It is sad and pathetic that he chooses to talk shit about others but chooses not do do anything about himself like… take a fucking acting class! To anyone who has ever received a “cast me or else” (plea for help) e-mail from Mr. White this lame inarticulate rant should sound familiar. But he should get his facts straight before he starts slandering hard working fellow artists in print and on the air.

  4. Mr. Guy Somme,
I am so sorry that you had to experience one of his general-rant-torture-auditions. I think the theatre community should develop a “psychologist-fund” for you to help you get past the damage that was done to you :-)

I have never seen him audition, but I believe ever word you have said.

  5. While listening to this podcast, I felt like Gomez Adams playing with his trains.

I just knew that the trains were going to crash and I love every minute of it!

I thought I wrote some odd characters, but Kirk makes my most outrageous characters look like boy scouts.

  6. Mr. Murder,

Good ole friend!!! Glad you responded. And I must concur, you have some odd characters, but Kirk “Beam Me Up Scotty” White takes the cake.

  7. You know I had to know about this guy, since he seems to be calling other folks out…so I did a Google Search. One of the first things that pulls up is this from Esquire Magazine “Brutally Honest Personals”: http://www.esquire.com/brutal/profile.html?single=16

    Kirk White
    Age: 30
    Height: 5′11″
    Weight: 185
    Occupation: Unemployed
    Number of sexual partners: 0
    Last date: Never
    Location: San Francisco

“I am a thirty-year-old virgin on the verge of giving up on love. When I do have a job, it’s low paying, and credit consolidators take half of what I earn. I’m behind on my rent, emotionally closed, and take medication to treat my depression. I’m short, not that attractive, a little fat, and have a very small penis. I also have a problem with excessive farting. I studied mathematics in college but still live under the delusional hope of becoming an actor.”

…it is either this guy is playing the crazy part to a tee…
…or he is really honestly this crazy.

I sent the brother an email with my opinions. And to honestly try to hook him up.

Like you Mike trying to get him on your podcast? He has not emailed me back.

    Woo.
hoo. Sometimes, a non reply is a *good reply*

  10. […] But here’s the really cool thing: This year, the Fringe (or, rather, the fantastic Michael Rice) is offering podcasts with many of the performers, which can be accessed on the main Fringe page and found at the Cool As Hell Theatre Podcast. Among the highlights: El Camino Loco, Show Me Where It Hurts and, in particular, this brilliant podcast about failed artistry with the “honest” Kirk White. […]

  11. Good interview. I think it’s sad that he’s let his anger get the best of him. We all get our teeth kicked in, nature of the beast. You can’t get into a headspace where you think you’ll never get in regardless of what you do. Also it causes ulcers.
If he were smart (or clear headed) he would direct all the energy he puts into the hate zine into organizing people in similar situations and putting together work or workshops themselves. If he’s talented as he says he is, it should be all good.
Like Steve Martin said: “The trick is to be so good that they can’ ignore you.”
